USC senior Jake Hernandez stepped up huge for the Trojans last week, as he helped lead his team to four victories. Hernandez tallied multi-hit outings in all four games and hit .556 on the week with a .611 slugging percentage. In USC’s three game sweep against UCLA, the senior slugger went 7-for-13 with four RBI, adding a RBI and a ninth-inning run scored in the Trojan's come-from-behind 7-4 victory on Saturday to complete the series sweep. Hernandez recorded at least one RBI in every game this week and helped the Men of Troy extend their winning streak to nine games, their longest since 2001.

With his impressive performance, the senior first baseman was honored with his first-career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor for April 21-27. He also bolstered his team-leading .367 batting average that also ranks third in the Pac-12. Led by Hernandez, USC will take on UC Irvine in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night, before returning back to Conference action for a three-game set at Washington State over the weekend.

Other USC men’s student-athletes nominated this week included: Kyle Davis (baseball) for stepping up with clutch relief pitching for USC all week, surrendering only one hit in 5.2 innings of work and picking up two saves and a win; and Erik Sugimoto (golf) for finishing fourth overall at the 2014 Pac-12 Championships on Sunday thanks to a final round 68.

USC women's tennis pair of senior Kaitlyn Christian and junior Giuliana Olmos had a huge weekend for USC at the Pac-12 Championships in Ojai, Calif. over the weekend. After Sabrina Santamaria went down earlier in the season with an injury, Kaitlyn Christian had lost her doubles partner that she had won back-to-back Pac-12 Championship Doubles crowns with the past two seasons. Christian then paired with Olmos in hopes of extending their streak and the senior-junior Trojan tandem stepped up to the task. The duo surrendered no more than two games in each of their first three matches at this year's tourney, and they capped the run with a decisive championship victory over the top seeds, #9 ranked Ahn/Zhao of Stanford. Christian and Olmos showed no fear of their highly-ranked opponent and whipped up a 6-3, 6-3 win over the Cardinal team, netting the 2014 Pac-12 Doubles Championship for the Trojans -- Christian's third consecutive crown and the first for Olmos. Led by Christian and Olmos, USC will host Idaho in the first round at 2 p.m. on Friday (May 9) at Marks Stadium

Other USC women’s student-athletes nominated this week included: Tera Novy (track & field) for throwing her PR over the weekend and moving from sixth to fifth on USC's all-time list for the Open Discus Throw; and Doris Chen (golf) for taking third overall at the 2014 Women's Golf Pac-12 Championships over the weekend.
