Amanda Fink Named Pac-10 Women's Tennis Player Of The Week|
March 30, 2009
Senior Amanda Fink anchored two huge Pac-10 wins for #10 USC, which upset #8 California with a 4-3 victory before snapping a 50-match losing streak against #11 Stanford with a 5-2 win over the Cardinal last weekend. For her outstanding efforts in the important USC wins, Fink has earned her first career pick as the Pac-10 Women's Tennis Player of the Week. She is also the first Trojan to be awarded the honor this season.
Playing doubles with Gabriela Niculescu, Fink's doubles wins clinched that point for USC in both matches. Fink also extended her singles winning streak out to 12 consecutive victories with straight-set wins in singles in both dual matches.
Fink's 6-4, 6-4 win over #38 Claire Ilcinkas clinched the win for USC against Cal on Friday. The next day, Fink had the first singles win for USC in a decisive 6-0, 6-3 win over Lindsay Burdette during the victory over Stanford - USC's first win over Stanford since 1986.
Fink is ranked #26 in the nation in singles and #10 with Niculescu in doubles. With her now-12-match winning streak, Fink is 23-7 overall and 14-1 in dual match singles play. USC's two dual match wins puts the Trojans on a seven-match winning streak. USC is 15-2 overall and now stands undefeated in Pac-10 play at 3-0.
