Luana Magnani Named Pac-10 Women's Tennis Player Of The Week|
Feb. 21, 2006
Senior Luana Magnani (Pasadena, Calif./San Marino HS) kept her dual match singles record flawless with another two wins last week against her California and Stanford opponents. She did double-duty in both matches, and was named Pac-10 Player of the Week for posting a doubles win against Cal and two singles wins.
In a rain-delayed dual match against top-ranked Stanford, Magnani almost single-handedly put a scare in the streaking Cardinal when she toppled Whitney Deason 7-5, 6-3 from her No. 4 doubles position. That win wound up as USC's only singles victory against Stanford, which extended its winning streak to 65 straight matches with the 5-2 match win. That singles win rounded out a winning weekend for Magnani, who had also posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over California's Jessica Shu after teaming up with Lindsey Nelson at No. 1 doubles for a, 8-2 doubles win in USC's 4-3 win over the Bears. No. 69-ranked Magnani is now 5-0 in dual match singles play on the season.
This is Magnani's first Pac-10 Player of the Week, and also the first weekly honor for USC.
