Women Of Troy Earn No. 9 Preseason Ranking for 2003|

LOS ANGELES - With four talented seniors and a deep roster, the USC women's tennis team has been tabbed No. 9 in the preseason Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Monday, Jan 13.
Topping the preseason list this year is defending NCAA Champion Stanford who received 20 first-place votes. Second-ranked Florida garnered six first-place votes, followed by No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Duke and No. 5 North Carolina. Arizona State, UCLA, Vanderbilt, USC and California round out the women's top-10.
The Women of Troy undoubtedly boast their strongest lineup in recent years. Seniors Jewel Peterson, Maureen Diaz, Anita Loyola and Tiffany Brymer will be joined by returners Luana Magnani, Bernadette Bayani and Melissa Esmero, along with newcomer Carine Vermeulen.
With 772 first-place votes, Peterson is ranked No. 3 in the preseason singles rankings. Diaz is listed at No. 55 and Brymer at No. 90. In doubles, Brymer and Peterson enter 2003 ranked No. 9 and Magnani and Loyola are ranked 40th.
USC opens the 2003 season this week at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash., Jan. 17-19. The dual match season begins Wednesday, Jan. 22, when the Women of Troy host Cal Poly at 1:30 p.m. at Marks Tennis Stadium.
