    Olmos & Smith Wrap Run At ITA National Indoors

    Giuliana Olmos' singles and doubles action in New York has come to a close.

    FLUSHING, N.Y. — USC’s Giuliana Olmos and Gabby Smith had their doubles run in New York come to a close today with a loss to the top-seeded pair in the bracket out at the ITA National Indoor Championships at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center. Olmos also bowed out of consolation singles play with a loss today.

    After netting a Round of 16 win yesterday, the senior-sophomore dup of Olmos and Smith came up against Cal’s top-seeded Manasse/Starr in today’s quarterfinal bout. The Golden Bear pair was able to create some distance on the there Trojans en route to a 6-2, 6-2 decision that put an end to Olmos/Smith’s run in the doubles draw.

    In singles, #10-ranked senior Giuliana Olmos had had a tough first-round matchup in the main draw, taking a loss to the #3-ranked player in the nation to wind up in the consolation bracket today. There, Olmos fell in the first set against Michigan’s Brienne Minor before ramping up the pressure in the second to get into a tiebreaker in that one. Minor was able to hold on in the breaker, however, registering a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over Olmos in consolation competition.
