Nov. 9, 2012
FLUSHING, N.Y. -- Another busy day In New York for Sabrina Santamaria has yielded more successful results for the USC sophomore. She and doubles partner Kaitlyn Christian are another step closer to defending their ITA National Indoor Championship thanks to today's quarterfinal victory, pushing the top-ranked Trojan tandem into tomorrow's semifinals. Santamaria also had two top-10 tangles in singles competition today as she worked her way into the quarters in the singles main draw as well. Christian and Santamaria had one doubles match on the docket today, facing UNC's Dai/Kay in the quarterfinals. A solid 8-3 win launched the Trojan pair into tomorrow's semifinals, where they face #17 Guarachi/Macfarlane of Alabama for the right to play for the doubles crown. Santamaria's busy day saw her take on two top-10 opponents, as the #8 USC sophomore first plugged in a powerful 6-1, 6-1 win over No. 7 seed Mary Anne Macfarlane of Alabama, who is ranked #10 in the nation in singles. Santamaria's straight-set momentum was interrupted in the evening's quarterfinals, however, as she fell in three sets to Cal's #7 Zsofi Susanyi. On the plus side, Santamaria can now put full focus on tomorrow's doubles semifinals, as she and Christian look to add another big doubles title to their young resumes. That doubles semifinal is set for 9 a.m. ET tomorrow. Complete USC results from New York are below.
