FLUSHING, N.Y. -- USC women's tennis is having a strong run in bow draws of the 2013 ITA National Indoor Championships out in New York. In the doubles realm, defending champs Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria may have been upended, but teammates Giuliana Olmos and Zoë Scandalis are carrying the Trojan torch with a power move into tomorrow's semifinals. In singles, Santamaria also has scored herself a slot in the semifinals tomorrow at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Competition got underway on Thursday, with all three USC doubles teams advancing by win or by bye, while Santamaria got her opening win in singles. Later that afternoon, USC's No. 3 seeded Brynn Boren and Zoë Katz had been bumped out, but USC's #54 Olmos/Scandalis and #1 Christian/Santamaria pushed on to the Friday quarterfinals. Christian and Santamaria -- defenders of back-to-back ITA National Indoor crowns -- were ousted by Herring/Kowase of Georgia in the quarters. The other big upset of the day came at the hands to Trojans Olmos and Scandalis, who topped the top seeds from UCLA, Brady/Harrison with an 8-4 victory to advance to tomorrow's semifinals. There, Olmos/Scandalis will take on Georgia Tech's Kurey/Woodard, the team that had knocked out teammates Boren/Katz on Thursday.

In singles, USC junior Sabrina Santamaria is settling into her status as the nation's No. 1 singles player, having picked up a Round of 32 win on Thursday followed by a busy day of action today. She notched her second straight-set win with a victory in the Round of 16 this morning, putting her up against Virigina's #9 Julie Elbaba this evening. There, the No. 4 seeded Trojan junior held her ground and dug out a 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3 win to roll on through to tomorrow's semifinals. She'll face top-seeded Jamie Loeb of North Carolina in a 1 p.m. ET semifinal bout tomorrow.
