Women of Troy Rebound In ITA Indoor Consolation Play|
Nov. 7, 2014
FLUSHING, N.Y. -- The USC women have settled into indoor action on the East Coast, netting a victorious day of consolation play out at the ITA National Indoor Championships at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. After stumbling in yesterday's first round of singles action, USC's Giuliana Olmos and Zoë Scandalis got down to business in the consolation draw today. So, too, did Olmos with doubles partner Gabby Smith. The Trojan tandem whipped up a strong win in its doubles clash this afternoon to advance there as well.
Now more comfortable on the indoor courts after spending the bulk of the fall outdoors, both Women of Troy pinned up straight-set wins today. The #38 junior Olmos ripped through to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Virginia Tech's #64 Ilinca Stoica to advance. And #15 senior Scandalis drilled a 6-3, 6-0 win over Utah State's McKenzie Davis to also move along in the consolation draw.
At day's end, Olmos combined forces once again with freshman partner Smith for doubles consolation action. Up against another Pac-12 pair, Colorado's Steur/Wojcik, the two Trojans followed up a tight first set with a clean sheet in the second, winning 7-6, 6-0 to advance.
More consolation play follows tomorrow for the Trojan contingent.
