Women's Tennis Advances In Singles And Doubles At ITA Regional Championships|

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - USC women's tennis players Luana Magnani and Carine Vermeulen each recorded four victories in the first two days of tournament play, advancing all the way to the semifinals of the ITA West Regional Championship at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. Joining the pair are freshmen Judy DeVera and Dianne Matias, who won their first two matches to move into the doubles quarterfinal.
As the No. 2 seed, Magnani beat UCLA's Nina Yaftali, 7-6(2), 6-2, in the opener and San Diego's Jenny Brown, 6-1, 6-4, in the second round. On Saturday, Magnani beat Anne Claire Ortiz-Luis of UNLV, 6-2, 6-4, then earned a 6-4, 7-5 win over Arizona State's Joslyn Burkett to move into the semifinals.
Vermeulen beat Cindy Treber of UNLV, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2, and Laura Gordon of UCLA, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, on Friday, then got past sixth-seeded Lauren Perl of San Diego, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, and San Diego State's Indra Erichsen, 6-1, 6-2, on Saturday.
Matias also recorded two victories in singles play before falling to Arizona's Diane Hollands in the quarterfinals.
