Santamaria, Lao/Pulido Line Up For Title Matches
Oct. 21, 2012
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. -- USC women's tennis is within reach of a Trojan sweep of ITA Southwest Regional Championship titles tomorrow after a rainy but successful day of play for sophomore Sabrina Santamaria and doubles pair Danielle Lao and Valeria Pulido. Santamaria worked her way into the singles championship match with a gutsy three-set win over UCLA's Kaitlyn Ray in today's semifinals. Santamaria's 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win puts the No. 2 seeded sophomore into the singles final tomorrow Meanwhile, in the doubles draw, USC's Gabriella DeSimone and Zoe Scandalis took a semifinal loss to the top seeds to bow out of the action in that bracket. Teammates Danielle Lao and Valeria Pulido, however, were able to pin up an 8-6 win in their semifinal on the other end of the bracket, beating a team from Long Beach State to move into the championship bout against that Bruin team of Anderson/Morton tomorrow.
