USC's Olmos & Scandalis Will Fight For ITA All-American Doubles Title|
Oct. 5, 2013
PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. -- USC's Giuliana Olmos and Zoë Scandalis have torn through four top-20 opponents out at the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships, with one more opponent standing between the Trojans and the 2013 doubles title. Olmos and Scandalis are picking up where teammates Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria left off as winners of the 2012 doubles down. Tomorrow, it will be the tandem of Olmos and Scandalis playing for it all at Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
After posting a solid 6-2, 6-0 win in today's semifinal over Stanford's #17 Ahn/Zhao, Olmos/Scandalis will next contend with another local squad in tomorrow's title match, as #54 Olmos/Scandalis square off against #20 Anderson/Brady of UCLA.
After stumbling in their first prequalifying match last weekend, Olmos and Scandalis wound up being awarded a spot in the qualifying draw as a "lucky loser." Since then, the Trojan duo have proved to be anything but losers. After racing through qualifying in order to earn their spot here in the main draw, Olmos and Scandalis, ranked #54 in the nation, have now dispatched four straight top-20 teams, including two top-10 takedowns.
