Olmos/Scandalis Power Up For ITA All-American Semifinal Spot|
Oct. 4, 2013
PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. -- USC women's tennis has a very upset-minded pair of Women of Troy digging their way through the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships doubles draw. After stumbling in their first prequalifying match last weekend, Giuliana Olmos and Zoë Scandalis wound up being awarded a spot in the qualifying draw as a "lucky loser." Ever since, the Trojan duo have proved to be anything but losers.
After racing through qualifying in order to earn their spot here in the main draw, Olmos and Scandalis, ranked #54 in the nation, have now dispatched three top-20 teams, including two top-10 takedowns in their past two matches. Following yesterday's 8-4 upset of the #4 pair from Oklahoma, Brhane/Ritchie, in the Round of 16, Olmos and Scandalis stayed in winning form for today's quarterfinals. There, Olmos/Scandalis brushed aside #9 Kilgo/Adams of Texas Tech to the tune of another 8-4 victory.
That puts the Trojan tandem in tomorrow's semifinals, where they'll square off against Stanford's #17 Ahn/Zhao for the right to move into Sunday's title match at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
