Fink/Niculescu Qualify For All-American Main Draw|

PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. - The USC women's tennis team will have two singles players and one doubles team kick off the main draw of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American tomorrow in Pacific Palisades. Doubles pair Amanda Fink / Gabriela Niculescu powered their way through the qualifying rounds the past two days to earn a place as a qualifier in the doubles main draw. Meanwhile, senior Lindsey Nelson and sophomore Sarah Fansler - the nation's No. 2 and No. 10 players, respectively, were already inked into the main draw of singles competition.
Fink/Niculesu put together a series of three wins in qualifying play to emerge as the one out of three Trojan pairs to play in qualifying. Fink/Niculescu first beat Fresno State/s Kucerkova/Petukhova 8-3 on Tuesday, while Trojan teammates Lindsey Nelson / Maria Sanchez topped Vanderbilt's Bertrand/Newman 8-4, and Sarah Fansler / Leyla Entekhabi also pushed through to the second round with an 8-4 win over Princeton's Marable/Parks.
In Wednesday's qualifying doubles action, Nelson/Sanchez and Fansler/Entekhabi were both edged out in the second round. Nelson/Sanchez took a tough Cal pair of Babos/Kusano down to the wire, but fell in a tiebreaker 9-8 (4). Meanwhile, Fink/Niculescu pushed past Clemson/s Salge/Balda to enter the third round, where the Women of Troy tacked up an 8-6 decision over Cal Poly's Blalock/Wong to punch their ticket in the doubles main draw.
Fink/Niculescu's first round opponent has not yet been released. In singles play, Nelson opens her All-American competition against Ani Mijacka of Clemson, and Fansler will play Florida's Megan Alexander.
