Women of Troy Win The Day, Move On In ITA/Riviera All-American Action|
Oct. 2, 2014
PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. -- USC senior Zoë Scandalis was in fine form today in her opening rounds of singles and doubles action at the ITA/Riviera Women's All-American Championships. Scandalis began the day with a dominant performance in singles before pairing with teammate Giuliana Olmos as the No. 6 seeded doubles team in the main draw and wrapping the day with another solid victory to advance in both realms.
All-American Scandalis stepped into the singles main draw with a matchup against Princeton's #67 Lindsay Graff. It turned out #15 Scandalis was prepped for battle, as she delivered a dominating 6-1, 6-0 victory to propel herself on to tomorrow's Round of 16. There, Scandalis will go up against No. 3 seeded Hayley Carter of North Carolina at 9 a.m. to fight for a spot in the quarterfinals.
After her speedy singles win, Scandalis paired up with her trusty doubles partner Giuliana Olmos to open up the duo's main draw action. The pair powered through to the final last season, and they went to work today to strike a path toward a repeat visit. After a first-round bye, sixth-seeded and #7 ranked Olmos and Scandalis played Cal's #11 Manasse/Starr this afternoon in the Round of 16. The Trojan duo was all business. Olmos/Scandalis silenced the Golden Bears in the first set and powered on to a 6-0, 6-4 victory that plugged the Women of Troy into tomorrow's quarterfinals.
