Christian/Santamaria Snag NCAA Semifinal Slot|
May 25, 2013
URBANA, ILL. -- USC's No. 2 seeded doubles pair of Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria is in hot pursuit of history. A dominating quarterfinal win today in Urbana, Ill., sets up the Trojan duo for the NCAA Doubles semifinals tomorrow, where they become just the second USC team ever to reach that round. Christian was a freshman on USC's first NCAA semifinalist team in 2011, and tomorrow afternoon the junior will look to take that extra step into the title match alongside friend and sophomore teammate Santamaria.
Ever since taking their first loss of the season last week, Christian/Santamaria seem to have locked back in on the task at hand. The winners of back-to-back ITA National Indoor Doubles and Pac-12 Doubles championships, Christian/Santamaria have now leveled their gaze at an NCAA crown. Today's smooth 6-2, 6-0 win over Illinois' Kopinski/White added some extra momentum to that cause. Now, the No. 2 seeded Trojan pair will line up in a semifinal bout tomorrow (May 26) against No. 4 seed Boren/Szekely of Tennessee for the right to play for the NCAA title on Memorial Day. Tomorrow's semifinal match is slated to be played no earlier than 4 p.m. CT.
