Christian/Santamaria Punch Through To NCAA Quarterfinals

Kaitlyn and Sabrina are looking to add an NCAA doubles title to their ITA National Indoor and Pac-12 championships.

    May 24, 2013

URBANA, ILL. -- USC's No. 2 seeded doubles pair of Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria have created some momentum for themselves in the 2013 NCAA Doubles Championships in pinning up another straight-set win today in the Round of 16. The No. 2 team in the nation will face their first seeded pair of the draw to date tomorrow in the quarterfinals in Urbana, Ill.

Christian/Santamaria will take on 5-8 seeded Brhane/Ritchie of Oklahoma for the right to advance to the semifinals. A win tomorrow in the quarterfinals would make the Trojan pair just the second USC women's team to reach the NCAA doubles semis. Christian was a freshman on that first Trojan pair to do it, having reached the 2011 semis with then-senior Maria Sanchez.

In order to get themselves in position for a potential shot at history, Christian and Santamaria had to bounce back from taking their first loss of the season last week during NCAA team competition. The Trojan duo have since regrouped with power, following up their first-round win with today's 6-3, 6-2 victory over Oklahoma State's Narattana/Rose.
