Jewel Peterson Falls To Florida's Lehnhoff In NCAA Singles Quarterfinals|

STANFORD, Calif. - USC women's tennis junior Jewel Peterson was eliminated in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division I Singles Championship on Thursday, May 23, at Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Center. Peterson and doubles partner Tiffany Brymer also suffered a loss today to end their doubles championship run.
After advancing to the quarterfinals for the second time in her three-year USC career, Peterson suffered a hard-fought three-set loss to Florida's Jessica Lehnhoff, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, on Thursday. The Women of Troy's No. 8-ranked junior completes her season with a 39-8 overall record and her third-straight ITA All-American honor. Teammate Luana Magnani was eliminated in the second round on Wednesday.
In doubles, Peterson and Brymer won their first match of the tournament on Wednesday, May 22, by defeating Auburn's Carolina Maurer and Katia Illarinova, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, marking their first career NCAA victory (the pair fell in the first round of the 2001 tournament). In a third-set tiebreaker, Peterson and Brymer suffered a second-round loss to Washington's Claire Carter and Darija Klaic, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4), this afternoon at Stanford. Entering the tournament as a 5-8 seed earned the USC tandem their first-ever ITA Doubles All-American accolade.
USC was also represented at the doubles championship by pair Anita Loyola and Luana Magnani. Loyola and Magnani fell in the first round to Adria Engel and Dora Krstulovic of Arizona State, 6-2, 7-6 (3).
