    Jewel Peterson Moves Into Quarterfinals

    May 21, 2003

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - With her most convincing win yet at the 2003 NCAA Singles Championships in Gainesville, Fla., senior Jewel Peterson advanced to the quarterfinal round with a two-set victory over Oregon's Daria Panova on Wednesday. Peterson will now face second-seeded Christelle Grier of Northwestern in Thursday's quarterfinals.

Peterson posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Panova Wednesday morning in the Round of 16. As the Women of Troy's eighth-seeded and last remaining representative, Peterson will face Grier tomorrow at 9 a.m. EST. Grier defeated Peterson earlier this season when the pair met at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wisc.

Unfortunately, the Trojans' strong play did not carry over into doubles. Peterson and partner Tiffany Brymer were eliminated from the NCAA Doubles Championships in the Round of 16 by third-seeded Sarah Riske and Aleke Tsoubanos of Vanderbilt, 6-4, 6-2.
