USC Earns Trip To NCAA Sweet 16 With Win Over Texas|

No. 8 USC, making its 16th consecutive and 23rd overall NCAA appearance, defeated Texas, 4-0, in an NCAA Championships Women's Tennis second round match at USC's Marks Stadium on Sunday (May 13).
USC, after its eighth team title, improved to 19-4 while Texas, making its 25th consecutive postseason appearance, fell to 16-10.
USC's No.1 doubles tandem of Judy DeVera and Amanda Fink made quick work of Longhorns Vanja Corovic and Marija Milic, 8-1. Soon after, Trojans Sarah Fansler and Lindsey Nelson, at No. 3 doubles, finished off Texas for the doubles point with an 8-2 win over Stephanie Davison and Jane Pringle. Troy's Dianne Matias and Julie Smekodub were leading Texas' Ristine Olson and Courtney Zauft, 5-4, when doubles play was suspended.
USC'a Anca Anastasiu got USC on the singles board first with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles over Petra Dizdar.
Across the stadium, Matias dispatched of Olson soon after at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
Fink then clinched the match and a Trojan trip into the Sweet 16 with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Texas' Zauft.
At No. 1 singles, Nelson had dropped the first set to Corovic, 4-6, but was leading 3-2 in the second when play was stopped. Fansler was ahead 6-2, 5-5 at No. 2 singles over Davison while DeVera, after falling 5-7 in the first set, was ahead in the second set, 3-2, against Sarah Lancaster when the match was clinched.
USC will play Miami in the round of 16 on May 18 at the University of Georgia.
