USC Downs Fairfield, 4-0, In NCAA Championships First Round|

No. 5 seed USC, in its 30th NCAA appearance, quickly defeated visiting Fairfield, 4-0, in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship at USC's Marks Stadium on Friday (May 11).
USC, ranked fourth in the nation, improved to 21-3 while Fairfield dropped to 14-7. The Trojans will face fellow first-round winner Vanderbilt at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Commodores defeated San Diego, 4-1, at USC earlier in the day.
The Trojans made quick work of the Stags to capture the doubles point. The No. 75 doubles duo of Danielle Lao and Alison Ramos defeated Fairfield's Nikki Jackson and Victoria Pirrello, 8-0, on court 3. USC's No. 3-ranked doubles team of Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamarina, playing on court 1, posted an 8-0 win over Fairfield's Monica Yajima and Carolina Koladzyn. USC's No. 42-ranked doubles tandem of Valeria Pulido and Zoe Scandalis were ahead 7-2 on court 2 when play was called.
USC breezed through singles play to complete the 4-0 win. Trojan Gabriella DeSimone made it 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Fairfield's Victoria Pirrello at No. 5 singles while USC's Alison Ramos downed the Stags' Emma Samson, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles for a 3-0 lead.
Troy's Kaitlyn Christian completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Fairfield's Carolina Koladzyn at No. 4 singles.
