April 29, 2006
OJAI, CALIF. -- USC freshman Amanda Fink has earned herself a place in the Pac-10 women's singles title match after posting an impressive comeback win in Saturday's semifinals. Her Trojan teammate Lindsey Nelson also reached the semifinals, but fell in her match to leave Fink as the lone representative from the No. 2-ranked USC women's squad still going in Pac-10 action. Fink will face California's #8 Suzi Fodor for the conference singles crown at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday (April 30) in Ojai, Calif.
Saturday's semifinal action squared #26 Nelson off against Fodor, who stayed in control of the match to topple Nelson with a 6-1, 6-1 decision. At the same time, #10 Fink was battling Stanford's #4 Alice Barnes. After slipping in the first set, Fink refocused and charged her way to a powerful comeback victory, tacking up a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory to work her way into the title match.
