OJAI, Calif. - The USC men's and women's doubles pairs of Daniel Langre and Parker Collins and Bernadette Bayani and Melissa Esmero won their final matches on Sunday, April 27, to bring home two 2003 Pac-10 doubles championships from Ojai.

Unranked and unseeded heading into the conference tournament, Langre and Collins stunned each of their opponents with outstanding play, improving with every round. The pair claimed the main draw tournament title on Sunday with an 8-3 victory over Stanford's K.C. Corkery and James Pade.

"This is such a great way to end the year, especially for Parker," said USC head coach Peter Smith. "Parker and Daniel played great tennis this weekend and now they're Pac-10 champions. That's something they will treasure the rest of their lives."

Collins and Langre are the first USC pair to win the Pac-10 Doubles Tournament since 1995 when Brett Hansen (current USC men's tennis assistant coach) and Fernando Samayoa captured the crown. Prior to the start of the tournament, Collins and Langre had only played six matches together this season.

On the women's side, Bayani and Esmero also dominated the field, beating Arizona's Dianne Hollands and Kelly Perry 8-5 to win the 2003 Pac-10 Doubles Invitational.

Esmero, the 2001 Pac-10 Invitational singles champion, added to her set of conference titles, while Bayani capped off a season in which she has played limited matches as the eighth member of the Women of Troy lineup. The pair was also relatively inexperienced, having only played together six times before the tournament.

"Ojai is one of our favorite tournaments and our players have been very successful the last few years, winning three straight titles," said USC women's tennis head coach Richard Gallien. "Melissa and Bernadette played very well, especially Bernadette. Even though she has not played that much this season, she was very sharp out there."
