    LOS ANGELES - The third-ranked USC women's tennis took down No. 20 California, 4-3, on Saturday, April 9, at Marks Stadium. The Trojans' Nicole Leimbach, ranked 10th nationally, upset fourth-ranked Suzi Babos, 6-1, 6-1, at center court to lead the Women of Troy.

    With the win, USC improves to 16-2 overall and 7-1 in conference play, while California falls to 12-7, 2-4.

    USC kicked off the match claiming the doubles point from the second and third positions. Lindsey Nelson and Carine Vermeulen teamed up to defeat Jessica Shu and Tiffany Lee, 8-2, at court No. 2. Anca Anastasiu and Taylynn Snyder then wrapped up the doubles point with an 8-6 victory over Cristina Visico and Marion Ravelojaona at court three.

    In singles, USC put itself up 3-1 following the first three matches including Leimbach's impressive victory at center court and Dianne Matias' 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Ravelojaona at court No. 4. The Golden Bears rallied back to knot the match at three with victories at court two and five including Stephanie Kusano's upset over 13th-ranked Lindsey Nelson, 7-5, 6-4--ending her 17-match winning streak.

    The match then came down to court three where the Trojans' Anastasiu rallied back after dropping the first set to win, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, over Monica Weisener.

    The Trojans next take the court Saturday, April 16, at noon at crosstown rival UCLA. The match will be the last regular season match for the Women of Troy before Pac-10 Championships the following week.
