No. 7 USC Stays Strong In Pac-10, Beats #25 ASU 6-1|
April 7, 2007
TEMPE, ARIZ. - The No. 7 USC women's tennis team posted another Pac-10 victory on Saturday, topping No. 25 Arizona State 6-1. The only point taken from the Trojans was the doubles point, as USC rebounded and tacked up six singles wins to overcome the Sun Devils and get the win. USC is now 16-2 overall and 5-0 in Pac-10 play.
For the first time in dual match play, USC's #53-ranked tandem of Judy DeVera / Amanda Fink was edged into a loss. The pair took ASU's Capannolo/Leitch into a tiebreaker, but fell 8-7 (5) in the match as USC missed the doubles point. In singles, however, USC staged a streak, pounding out four straight-set wins and a pair of three-set marathon victories to lock away the win, bettering the 4-3 decision USC had posted against the Sun Devils earlier this season.
UISC returns to action next week with a chance to avenge earlier losses to Cal and Stanford. USC hosts the Bears at 1:30 p.m. on Friday (April 13) and the Cardinal at noon on Saturday (April 14).
