    No. 7 Women of Troy Earn Close Victory Over Washington

    SEATTLE, Wash. - The No. 7-ranked USC Women of Troy earn a close 4-3 victory over No. 31 Washington on Saturday afternoon at Bill Quillian Courts on the campus of Washington in Seattle. With the win, the Trojans climb to 17-2 overall, 5-0 in the Pac-10 and the Huskies fall to 12-7, 1-5 in the Pac-10.

    In doubles, No. 3 Alison Ramos/Cristala Andrews defeated Lina Xu/Samantha Smith 8-3, to start things out well for USC. From the No. 1 slot, #5 Amanda Fink/Gabriela Niculescu defeated Joyce Ardies/Denise Dy 8-6 to clinch the doubles point for the Women of Troy. UW's Venice Chan/Aleksandra Malovic played Lyndsay Kinstler/Sarah Fansler tough from the No. 2 spot and the Trojans dropped that final doubles match 9-7.

    The Trojans entered singles play with a 1-0 match lead, which would prove to be decisive as USC and Washington split in singles play. USC earned their first singles point when UW's Dy, from the No. 2 slot retired in the first set, giving USC a point. From the No. 1 spot, #24 Chan of UW beat #33 Fansler, 6-2, 6-2 to get the win and put the score at 2-1, USC. Niculescu had a strong showing, beating Smith 6-1, 6-2. Alison Ramos came through with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Xu from the No. 4 spot to clinch the match for the Trojans, 4-1. The Huskies came through at the end with two tiebreak victories. From the No. 5 spot, Ardies of UW won the first set 7-5. Leyla Entekhabi came back in the second set with a 6-3 win, however Ardies proved to be too much in the tiebreak, winning it 10-6. The No. 6 spot also saw a close tiebreak loss for USC. Lyndsay Kinstler started out with a 7-5 win in the first set, but Malovic came back in the second with a 7-5 win of her own. Malovic then came out and won the tiebreak 10-3, putting the final score of the match at 4-3, USC.

    After the two-match road trip in Washington, No. 7 USC will again take to the road next weekend, beginning with a 1:30 p.m. match at Arizona on Friday (April 10) and finishing up at Arizona State at 12 p.m. on Saturday (April 11).
