    No. 7 USC Women's Takes Care of Washington State

    No. 7 USC women's tennis took care of business in the first road match of the weekend, with a 7-0 sweep of Washington State on Friday at Simmelink Tennis Courts at the Hollingbery Fieldhouse in Pullman, Wash. The win moves USC to 16-3 and drops the Cougars to 7-14 on the year.

    USC started off well, with a doubles sweep. From the No. 1 slot, Amanda Fink/Gabriela Niculescu beat Aleksandra Cekic/Ekaterina Kamendova 8-3. The combination of Sarah Fansler/Lyndsay Kinstler defeated WSU's Bianca Selaru/Ioana Oprea 8-1 from the No. 2 spot. Cristala Andrews/Alison Ramos from the No. 3 spot beat the combination of Jessica Gomez/Elizabeth Fournier, 8-3. USC won the doubles point and put the score at 1-0 heading into singles play.

    The Women of Troy again showed strong in singles play. No. 1 Sarah Fansler defeated Ekaterina Kamendova 6-2, 6-4. From the No. 2 slot Amanda Fink finished well with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Aleksandra Cekic. In the No. 3 spot, WSU's Elizabeth Fournier gave Gabriela Niculescu a tough battle. Niculescu took the first set 6-3, but Fournier came back with a 7-6(4) second set tiebreak victory, setting up a third set tiebreak, which Niculescu won 10-4. With that victory, Niculescu sealed the match for the Trojans, 4-0. Alison Ramos took care of Ioana Oprea 6-0, 6-1 from the No. 4 spot. Sophomore Leyla Entekhabi followed suit with a 6-1, 6-1 win from the No. 5 spot and Cristala Andrews from No. 6 took care of Bianca Selaru 6-2, 6-1 to complete the sweep, 7-0.

     

     

    Next up for the Women of Troy is a trip across the state of Washington to visit Seattle and the #31 Washington Huskies tomorrow, Saturday (April 4) at 12 p.m.
