March 23, 2014
SEATTLE, WASH. -- The No. 12 USC women's tennis team wrapped up another Pac-12 road win with a sweep of No. 42 host Washington today in Seattle. The Trojans pounded out the doubles point for the early advantage and just kept rolling, sweeping up three straight-set singles wins capped by a clincher from Giuliana Olmos on court three. With their third straight win, the Women of Troy improve to 12-4 overall and take a 3-0 start to Pac-12 play.
Kicking off the doubles party was USC's senior duo of Brynn Boren and Kaitlyn Christian, who beat Washington's Douglas-Miron/Shimizu 8-5 on court one. Coming up with the clinching win for the doubles point was the Trojans' junior pairing of Gabriella DeSimone and Zoë Scandalis. That pair pinned up an 8-4 win from the No. 3 spot to beat out Lukac/Nemcevic and take a 1-0 lead for the Trojans.
The singles stream roared the Trojans' way thanks to a sparking win from Gabriella DeSimone on court four. She topped Andjela Nemcevic 6-2, 6-2 to hand the Trojans a 2-0 advantage. Soon after, it was a 3-0 lead thanks to Brynn Boren's 6-2, 6-2 win over Grace Ysidora at the No. 2 spot. The day would come to an early end when #71 Giuliana Olmos took over on court three. She whipped up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Julija Lukac to clamp down on the clincher and lock in the 4-0 win for the Women of Troy. That suspended action on the remaining courts and put the road win firmly in USC's column.
USC now returns home for two more Pac-12 clashes next week. The Trojans will host Oregon at 1:30 p.m. on Friday (March 28) before facing Washington State at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Match 29) -- all at Marks Stadium.
