LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- The No. 7 USC women's tennis team pinned up another dominant outing at Marks Stadium with a 7-0 sweep of visiting No. 59 Utah today. The Women of Troy improve to 13-2 overall in taking a 2-0 start to Pac-12 play with today's victory over the Utes.
After a smooth run through doubles on wins from #30 DeSimone/Scandalis on court two and Olmos/Yates at the No. 3 spot, the Trojans stayed in cruise control through singles. There were straight sets down the line for USC once again. On court two, USC's #27 sophomore Zoë Scandalis made it a near-perfect couple of days on the singles scene, following up yesterday's shutout win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory today over Utah's Sarah Pham. The Trojans' power was on display on all courts. At the No. 1 spot, USC's #2 sophomore Sabrina Santamaria took down #70 Teresa Bekerova 6-3, 6-2. #107 Giuliana Olmos stepped into the No. 3 position and dished out a 6-2, 6-2 win over Callie Craig. At No. 4, #67 Gabriella DeSimone tallied a 6-4, 6-1 win over Natasha Smith. USC showed control and strength on courts five and six, too. Kaitlyn Christian dispatched Lucia Kovarcikova 6-3, 6-1, and Elliy Yates delivered a 6-1, 6-2 win over Paige Miles to help rally the Trojans to the 7-0 sweep.
USC's next action takes the Trojans through Washington next week for more Pac-12 play. USC will visit Washington at 1:30 p.m. on Friday (March 22) and will then head to Pullman to face WSU at noon on Saturday (March 23).
