USC Women Get Past Arizona State, 4-3|

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 11 USC women's tennis team defeated No. 31 Arizona State, 4-3, on Friday afternoon in Tempe, Ariz. With the victory, the Women of Troy improve to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the Pac-10, extending their win streak to five matches. The Sun Devils fall to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
USC began the afternoon by winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. The Trojans picked up 8-5 wins at courts one and three, and completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at the No. 2 spot.
With only three more wins necessary to clinch the match, USC's Luana Magnani, Carine Vermeulen and Anca Anastasiu came through at the top three spots. Magnani defeated ASU's Joslynn Burkett, 6-3, 6-1, at center court, Vermeulen posted a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Wendy Pilecka at No. 2 and Anastasiu beat Cindy Sureephong, 6-2, 7-5, at court three.
Arizona State claimed wins at the bottom three positions, despite USC's efforts to push two of the three matches to a third set.
The Women of Troy travel to Tucson this evening for a noon match-up with Arizona on Saturday, March 13.
