March 3, 2007
SEATTLE, WASH. -- The No. 8 USC women's tennis team made its Washington trip a clean sweep by pinning up its second 7-0 decision on the road swing. The Women of Troy topped Washington 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in Seattle, improving to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in Pac-10 competition with the victory.
In similar fashion to yesterday's performance at WSU, USC opened with three strong doubles victories. #31-ranked Trojan pair Judy DeVera / Amanda Fink tacked up an 8-1 win at the No. 2 spot over Wong/Simpson, followed by an 8-2 win at No. 1 by Lindsey Nelson / Julie Smekodub and an 8-5 win by senior-freshman combo Anca Anastasiu / Sarah Fansler at No. 3.
Already perfect at the No. 6 singles position, Julie Smekodub extended that run to a 5-0 mark with a smooth 6-0, 6-0 win over Morgan Ramser to start things off for the Women of Troy. Judy DeVera was next, grabbing a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 over Allison Rainey, just before #20 Lindsey Nelson solidified the match win for USC with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Mathilde Cor at the No. 1 singles slot. #12 Sarah Fansler kept up the winning trend with her 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 over Tara Simpson, and then #48 Anca Anastasiu topped Melinda Wong 7-5, 6-1 from her No. 4 position. #89 Amanda Fink wrapped up the sweep for the Trojans by besting Joyce Ardies 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3.
Next up for the Women of Troy is a crosstown face-off against UCLA. That match is set for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday (March 8) at the LA Tennis Center.
