USC Women Win Again With 5-2 Victory At ASU|

TEMPE, ARIZ. - The No. 12 USC women's tennis team grabbed another road win on Saturday afternoon in Tempe, Ariz., pulling out a 5-2 win over the No. 18 Sun Devils. USC dropped the doubles point but came through in singles with some important three-setters, including Gabriela Niculescu's 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 match-clinching win over Kelcy McKenna at No. 2 singles. USC is now 8-2 overall this season.
After an 8-0 loss by Nelson/Sanchez at the No. 2 doubles position, USC got a win from Fink/Niculesu at No. 1 to even up the doubles race. USC's Fansler/Kinstler had a tight battle with Hein/McKenna at the No. 3 slot, with the Sun Devils managing an edge in the tiebreaker to get ASU the doubles point with the 9-8 (7) decision.
The rest of the singles action went to three sets, but USC pulled out wins in all but one. ASU's Ashlee Brown was able to top USC freshman Cristala Andrews 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 at the No. 6 position to get the Sun Devils a second point, but USC's Gabriela Niculescu clinched things for the Trojans on a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over Kelcy McKenna at No. 2. Also pulling off three-set wins for the Women of Troy was Amanda Fink in a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Nadia Abdala at No. 1, and Maria Sanchez' 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 win over Micaela Hein at No. 5 to round out the win for the Trojans.
USC is now set to finally return home to host two more Pac-10 foes in nonconference competition. The Trojans face Cal at 1:30 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 29) and then host Stanford at noon on Saturday (March 1).
