    Feb. 17, 2007

BERKELEY, CALIF. -- The No. 5 USC women's tennis team closed down a tough road trip with another 5-2 loss, this one to No. 9 California on Saturday afternoon in Berkeley. USC freshman Sarah Fansler remained undefeated in dual match singles play with her win at the No. 2 position, as USC's overall team record moves to 4-2 with the loss.

In doubles, #15 USC duo Judy DeVera / Sarah Fansler got USC an early upper hand with an 8-3 upset win over #12 Henkel/Moore at the No. 2 position. But Cal would battle back and win the point, taking the No. 1 spot with #2 Babos/Fodor's 8-6 decision over Lindsey Nelson / Julie Smekodub and then eking out a tiebreaker win at the No. 3 slot as Revelojaona/Bobusic pulled out a 9-8 (4) win over USC's #23 Fansler/Matias.

With the doubles point in hand, Cal worked its way to the match win with singles victories at No. 6, No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 spots to go ahead 5-0 in the match. USC grabbed its first point with Anca Anastasiu's 7-6, 6-4 win at the No. 5 position over Cal's #34 Marion Ravelojaona. The lone match to go to a third set was #9 Sarah Fansler's No. 2 match with defending Pac-10 single champ #32 Zsuzsanna Fodor. The third set was played as a 10-point pro-set, and Fansler won the marathon final set to get USC a second point and keep the freshman's dual match singles record perfect with a 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (13-11) win over Fodor.

USC returns to action next week with a 1:30 p.m. match at Pepperdine on Friday (Feb. 23).
