No. 12 USC Serves Up A 4-3 Upset Of No. 11 Vanderbilt|

LOS ANGELES - It was a hot day in Los Angeles as the Women of Troy took to the court on Saturday, Feb. 14 as No. 12 USC faced No. 11 Vanderbilt in Marks Stadium. It proved to be a thrilling match as USC defended their home court and upset Vanderbilt with a 4-3 win.
The doubles portion of the competition proved to be a nail biter. On court one, the #15 duo of Scandalis and Olmos claimed a decisive 8-4 win over Vanderbilt's #18 Campbell and Colton. Shortly after, Vanderbilt's Antal and Casares responded by beating the Trojan pair of Santamaria and Xeploeas 8-2. After a tied doubles score, USC's twosome of Westby and Smith on court three came in clutch with a 8-6 win over Altick and Sharma to collect the doubles point.
The excitement from doubles rolled over into singles as well. Securing the doubles point was key as the rest of the match was close. Court four was the first to finish with Vanderbilt's Astra Sharam beating #72 Gabby Smith 6-1, 6-1. The Women of Troy answered with a strong win of their own as #22 Giuliana Olmos defeated #71 Courtney Colton 6-1, 6-0. USC claimed another two-set win for Troy when Sabrina Santamaria shut out #89 Frances Altick 6-2, 6-1. Vanderbilt responded with some heat by winning the next two to keep them in the match. No. 15 Sydney Campbell beat USC's No. 65 Zoë Scandalis and Ashleigh Antal defeated Meredith Xepoleas 6-4, 6-3. With the score tied at 3-3, court five's results would determine the winner of the match. After USC's Madison Westby lost the first set to #68 Marie Casares 4-6, she fought back and won the next two sets 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the victory as USC upset Vanderbilt with a final score of 4-3.
This weekend's competition continues tomorrow (Feb. 15) as the Trojans take on No. 25 Texas at 12 p.m. in Marks Stadium.
