    MADISON, WISC. - The No. 9 USC women's tennis team got stuck with its first loss of the season after just missing out on an upset of No. 6 Georgia. Playing in the first round of the competitive ITA Women's National Indoor Championships in Madison, Wisc., the Women of Troy posted a singles comeback to pull even during the marathon match, but came up just short to take a 4-3 loss to the Bulldogs. USC is now 4-1 overall on the year.

    The Trojans opened the match with a strong showing in doubles play, getting wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to secure the first point of the match. At No. 1, Amanda Fink/Gabriela Niculescu topped Gullickson/Hyndman 8-4, while Sarah Fansler/Lyndsay Kinstler got an 8-5 win over Ueshima/Ellis at the No. 3 Up 1-0 on the way into singles play, USC saw Georgia take a 3-1 lead. Maria Sanchez took a rare loss at the No. 1 position to Chelsey Gullickson, and Amanda Fink and Alison Ramos were also upended in their No. 3 and No. 5 matches, respectively.

    The Trojans battled back to tie on wins from Sarah Fansler and Gabriela Niculescu. Fansler served up a 6-4, 7-5 win over Yvette Hyndman at the No. 2 slot, and Niculescu staged a comeback against Monika Dancevic for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory that made the match score 3-3. The No. 6 match between USC's Leyla Entekhabi and Georgia's Cameron Ellis was the last one raging on. In the end, Ellis got her win and one for Georgia with a 6-0, 7-5 decision.

    USC now will play Florida at 9 a.m. in consolation play tomorrow.
