The fourth-ranked USC women's tennis team improved to 4-0 on the 2006 season with a 7-0 sweep on the road against No. 54 San Diego State. The loss was the Aztecs' first dual-meet defeat of the season, putting San Diego State at 4-1 overall.
The Trojans began the day with a dominating effort in doubles play, sparked by an opening victory at the No. 3 doubles slot with an 8-2 decision for the freshman/junior tandem of Amanda Fink / Anca Anastasiu. With two more doubles wins, USC had its first point of the match in hand, giving way to senior Carine Vermeulen's clean sweep at No. 5 singles with her 6-0, 6-0 win over Esther Cadua to get the Trojans on the road to victory.
Senior Luana Magnani clinched the match for USC from her No. 4 singles position with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Sisse Nielsen. The rest of USC's singles players on the day also kept their dual match singles slates clean with wins to close out the day for the Women of Troy.
USC now returns to Los Angeles to host defending national champion No. 1 Stanford at 1:30 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 17) and No. 6 California at noon on Saturday (Feb. 18) at Marks Stadium.
