No. 7 USC Women Capture 5-2 Win Over Clemson|

MADISON, WISC. -- The No. 7 USC women's tennis team outlasted No. 14 Clemson in a long first-round match at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships today in Madison, Wisc. The Women of Troy earn a quarterfinal face-off with top-seeded Duke tomorrow (Feb. 13) as USC looks for an upset win to keep the Trojans undefeated so far this season. USC improves to 6-0 overall with today's win over Clemson.
USC opened things up by snagging that important doubles point with a pair of wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions. After Danielle Lao / Alison Ramos pinned up an 8-1 win at No. 2, Lyndsay Kinstler / Maria Sanchez secured USC's first point with an 8-6 decision at No. 2.
In singles action, USC edged ahead in the match on a powerful win at No. 6 slot as Cristala Andrews pounded out a 6-0, 6-4 win over Estefania Balda. That took USC ahead 2-0 while the remaining singles battles went raged on. USC's #37 Valeria Pulido pulled hers out at the No. 4 position with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win over #61 Nelly Ciolowski, while #39 Alison Ramos was unable to ward off her Clemson opponent as the Tigers took their first point on Keri Wong's 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 comeback over Ramos at No. 2.
With USC ahead 3-1 in the match, and #18 freshman Danielle Lao came through with today's winning heroics, clinching the win for USC with a 6-3, 6-4 cruise past #113 Ina Hadziselimovic at the No. 3 position. With the win in hand, USC had two matches still going. Leyla Entakhabi fell in her No. 5 singles match against Laurieanne Henry, while #8 Maria Sanchez was engaged in a tough match with #9 Josipa Bek. Sanchez overpowered her opponent in three sets, coming back from a tiebreak loss in the first set with two solid sets that gave Sanchez a 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 win that put the finishing touches on USC's 5-2 victory over the Tigers.
No. 7 USC will now face No. 1 Duke in a 3:30 p.m. CT quarterfinal match tomorrow (Feb. 13).
