    Feb. 3, 2005

LOS ANGELES - The seventh-ranked USC women's tennis swept 37th-ranked Pepperdine, 7-0, in a make-up match played on Thursday, Feb. 3, in Malibu. With the win, the Women of Troy improve to 3-0 overall, while the Waves fall to 2-2.

The match, originally scheduled last week, was postponed due to rain. This is the second-straight season the Women of Troy have swept the Waves, and USC's seventh-straight win in the series.

Judy DeVera and Dianne Matias were the first pair off the court with an 8-2 win at No. 3, while Nicole Leimbach and Carine Vermeulen ensured the doubles point with a win at center court, but it did not come with ease. After being down 5-1 to start the match, the Trojan pair fought back to win seven of the following nine games and take an 8-7 lead. The Waves broke USC's serve to force a deciding tiebreak, in which the Women of Troy jumped out to the early lead and eventually defeated Caroline Raba and Sylvia Kosakowski, 9-8.

In singles, DeVera started things off with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Lise Sissler at No. 6 and freshman Lindsey Nelson followed with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over the 65th-ranked Raba at the No. 2 spot. USC's sixth-ranked Leimbach was credited with the clinching victory as she defeated No. 52 Natalie Braverman, 6-0, 6-4, at center court.

The Women of Troy have 12 days off before the next contest when they host San Diego on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Marks Tennis Stadium.
