    Feb. 1, 2007

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. -- The No. 3 ranked USC women's tennis team grabbed its third straight win with a 7-0 victory on the road against No. 59 San Diego in San Diego on Thursday afternoon. USC improves to 3-0 with the sweep, and San Diego moves to 2-2.

After a powerful showing in doubles, in which USC pinned up three identical 8-3 victories with a slightly different doubles lineup that had been previously used this season. Lindsey Nelson and Julie Smekodub teamed up at No. 1 to get that win, while seniors Anca Anastasiu and Judy DeVera combined for the No. 2 doubles victory. #23-ranked tandem of senior Dianne Matias and freshman Sarah Fansler held down the fort at No. 3 for that win to help USC to a doubles sweep.

In singles, Lindsey Nelson was in winning mode at her No. 1 position, posting a 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 win to round out the action in San Diego. At Nos. 2-6, the Women of Troy pinned up straight-set victories. #95 Judy DeVera swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 slot, and Anca Anastasiu was just a game shy of doing the same with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5. #9 Sarah Fansler also was just a game off of a sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 2. At No. 3, Amanda Fink closed out strong with a 6-3, 6-0 victory, and #46 Dianne Matias won her No. 4 match 6-3, 6-3.

USC continues nonconference play with a match against Cal Poly at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 8) at Marks Stadium.
