No. 8 USC Posts Sweep Of Long Beach State|

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - The No. 8 USC women's tennis team pinned up its second straight sweep with a 7-0 decision over visiting Long Beach State on Wednesday afternoon at Marks Stadium. With the skies finally clear enough to get in a full match, the Women of Troy rolled to victory, snagging the doubles point before reeling off six straight singles wins to improve to 3-0 on the year.
In doubles play, Sarah Fansler/Leyla Entekhabi posted a comeback win at the No. 3 position over Armstrong/Sutton, getting an 8-6 win to give USC an advantage in the doubles race. At No. 2, however, Lindsey Nelson/Maria Sanchez were edged out 8-6 by Jeanes/Weeks to pull the teams even, but #5 Amanda Fink/Gabriela Niculescu held off Grady/Bengson to secure the doubles point for the Trojans with their 8-6 win at the No. 1 spot.
Straight set victories followed for the Women of Troy in singles play. Gabriela Niculescu was the first to get to a win for USC, winning 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 4 position. Freshman Leyla Entekhabi made quick work of her Long Beach State opponent for a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6, and then fellow freshman Maria Sanchez clinched the match from No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-0 decision.
The top three singles positions finished up next, led by Amanda Fink's 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 and then a 6-3, 6-2 decision from Sarah Fansler at No. 3. Lindsey Nelson wrapped things up on USC's clean sweep with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2 to close out the match for the Trojans.
The USC schedule is now back on track, with the Trojans hosting #18 Pepperdine at 1:30 tomorrow (Jan. 31) at Marks Stadium.
