    No. 16 USC Women Blank Sacramento State

    Danielle Lao shut out her doubles and singles opponents today.

    TEMPE, ARIZ. - The No. 16 USC women's tennis team has moved into the winner's circle of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Tempe, Ariz., with this morning's shutout of No. 48 Sacramento State. USC will move into tomorrow's match against either ASU or Texas Tech for them to move on to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships next weekend. USC improves to 2-0 on the year with today's win.

    In today's ITA opener against Sacramento State, USC was led by Danielle Lao, who didn't give up a single game in either doubles or singles play on the day. She and Alison Ramos blanked Baca/Meliuk from the No. 2 slot in doubles, and Lao would go on to shut out Rebeca Delgado 6-0, 6-0 in singles on the same court. On court three in doubles, Valeria Pulido and Zoe Scandalis also shut down their opponents Rohsheid/Knoebl with an 8-0 decision that helped wrap up the first point of the day for the Women of Troy.

    USC served up straight-sets against all comers in singles. Following Lao's lead, Gabriella DeSimone pinned up a near-perfect 6-1, 6-0 win over Katharina Knoebl at the No. 5 position, while the rest of the Women of Troy dominated their opponents to roll USC to a 7-0 sweep and into tomorrow's winner's match, set for 1:30 p.m. MT.
