LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - The No. 19 USC women's tennis team picked up its second win of the week in serving up a 6-1 victory over visiting Long Beach State. The Trojans improve to 2-0 with the victory.
A sweep in doubles action helped pave the way for a strong singles effort by the Women of Troy. The dynamic duo of Danielle Lao and Lyndsay Kinstler kicked things off with an 8-2 win at the No. 2 slot before Alison Ramos and Valeria Pulido locked up the first point of the match with an 8-4 decision at No. 1. The freshman-senior pairing of Kaitlyn Christian and Cristala Andrews helped USC skip into singles play with an 8-5 win at No. 3, and the teams were off into singles action.
The Trojans got wins at the top four positions, and another at No. 6 as five Women of Troy notched their second dual-match singles wins of the year. Danielle Lao, Alison Ramos, Kaitlyn Christian, Valeria Pulido and Lyndsay Kinstler all helped boost the Trojans' tally toward victory with Christian grabbing the clinching win from her No. 3 spot. At No. 5, Cristala Andrews got back to action after sitting out with injury and was edged out in a 10-point tiebreak as Long Beach State got its lone point of the match.
USC's next competition takes the Women of Troy to Ann Arbor, Mich., for action at the ITA Kick-off Weekend from Jan. 29-30.
