Brymer And Peterson Win Doubles Title At Pac-10 Indoors

Seattle, Wash. - The USC women's tennis team saw outstanding doubles play as they kicked off the 2003 season at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships this weekend, Jan. 17-19, in Seattle. Hosted by Washington at the Nordstrom Indoor Tennis Center, the conference tournament featured four singles and two doubles flights. The Women of Troy were represented in both doubles finals, as seniors Jewel Peterson and Tiffany Brymer captured the Flight #1 Doubles Championship by upsetting top-seeded Claire Carter and Darija Klaic of Washington, 9-7. In the other doubles final, USC's Melissa Esmero and Maureen Diaz fell to UCLA's Shilpa Joshi and Anya Loncaric, 8-4, for the title. Junior Bernadette Bayani led the Women of Troy in singles by reaching the Flight #4 finals with key victories over Washington's Andrea Coulter in the semis and Cal's Jessica Shu in the quarters. Bayani was defeated by Brooke Borishoff in the championship match, 6-4, 6-4. Esmero reached the semifinals in Flight #4 before falling to eventual-champion Borishoff, 6-2, 6-4. Brymer, who was seeded first in Flight #3, also reached the semifinals but was upset by Nicole Havlicek of Cal, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. Following are complete tournament results.
