LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- The No. 19 USC women's tennis team started the 2011 dual-match season on a winning note, serving up a 6-1 win over visiting Cal State Northridge in the Trojans home opener on Tuesday at Marks Stadium. After snagging the doubles point, USC rattled off the next four points in singles with Valeria Pulido dealing out the clinching win. USC is now off to a 1-0 start on the year, while Cal State Northridge goes to 1-1.

Sparked by the dominating pairing of #11-ranked Valeria Pulido and Alison Ramos at No. 1 doubles, USC was hot out of the gates. Pulido/Ramos pinned up an 8-1 win over Doane/Man-Son-Hing for the early advantage, and Kaitlyn Christian / Hayley Miller secured USC's first point of the match with their 8-3 win at the No. 3 position over Cheung/Sirojiddinova. It was the first match together for the freshman duo, and they worked well together to help USC to a 1-0 lead in the match. Lyndsay Kinstler and Danielle Lao wrapped up their No. 2 doubles match with a win in a tiebreak to bring up singles action for the teams.

There, Alison Ramos rolled through her No. 2 singles match against Matador Nina Jaworowski with a 6-0, 6-2 decision that put USC on its path to victory. Kaitlyn Christian got on the board next with her first career dual-match singles win in upending Nigora Sirojiddinov 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 3 slot to make it 3-0 USC. Coming through with the clincher was Valeria Pulido at No. 4, as the sophomore dished out a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sabrina Man-Son-Hing. Soon after, Danielle Lao had settled in at No. 1 and pushed through to a 7-5, 6-1 win over CSUN's Brooke Doane to get USC ahead 5-0. The Matadors tallied their point from the No. 6 slot, as Lorraine Cheung topped USC's Hayley Miller 6-1, 6-2 to make it 5-1, but USC senior Lyndsay Kinstler had the last word on the day in pulling through in a 10-point tiebreak to decide the third set and the match with her 6-1, 6-7, 1-0 (10-2) win over Ryma Korab.
