    Sauer played limited matches as a freshman... Completed the season with a 1-8 overall singles record and 0-3 mark in dual matches... Played three dual matches at No. 6 against Notre Dame (exh.), BYU and Kentucky... Partnered with Anca Anastasiu (1-2), Bernadette Bayani (0-1), Judy DeVera (0-2) and Carine Vermeulen (0-1) for a 1-6 overall doubles record and 1-3 mark in four dual matches at No. 3... Compiled a 1-4 singles record in fall tournaments.

In 2001, she was ranked as high as No. 16 in Southern California under-18 singles... In 2003, she advanced to the doubles semifinals at Fullerton and the doubles quarterfinals at the Easter Bowl... She also reached the singles finals and semifinals at the girls' 18-and-under USTA National Open and U18 Roy Emerson Classic, respectively... In 2002, she captured the 18-and-under Winter Super Series singles championship and advanced to the finals of the SCS Long Beach and the quarterfinals of the USTA National Open.

    Erica Denice Sauer was born on March 27, 1986, in Oxnard, Calif. ... The daughter of Mark and Karen Sauer, she has one brother, Mark, and one sister, Stephanie... Her cousin, Rusty Smith, competed for the United States at the 1988 and 2002 Winter Olympics... He captured a bronze medal in speed skating (men's 500m short track) at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah... Sauer chose to attend USC because of the great school spirit, athletic programs, location and campus... She is a sociology major.
