    Fifth-Ranked Arizona Earns First Pac-10 Victory of the Season

    TUCSON, Ariz. -- The fifth-ranked Arizona women's tennis team earned its first Pac-10 victory of the season by defeating No. 19 USC, 7-2. The Wildcats raise their record to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Pac-10, while the Trojans fall to 2-3 and 0-1, respectively.

    Vicky Maes continued her dual-match singles winning streak with a 6-3, 6-4 win over USC's Nicole London who also entered the match undefeated in singles dual-match play. Maes now owns a record of 6-0 in dual match play on the season and has an overall record of 18-5. All of her dual match wins have come in the top singles spot.

    Karen Goldstein had a tougher time with Ditta Huber in the No. 2 singles match but was able to come from behind for a tough, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 victory. She is now 5-1 in dual match play and 10-6 overall. Goldstein's doubles partner, Stephanie Sammaritano, also has a 5-1 dual match record after defeating Karolina Bakalarova, 6-4, 6-2, in the No. 3 singles match.

    The Wildcats almost swept through doubles play, but the duo of Maes and freshman Anne-Laurence Bilenne gave up four straight games after leading 5-4 in their match and ended up losing to Huber and Pam Trump, 8-5.
