    Trojans Open Strong At Short Course Worlds
    Hosszu fourth in 200m fly; Mellouli earns bronze in 200m free.

    USC junior Katinka Hosszu finished fourth in the 200m fly and former Trojan Ous Melloui won bronze in the 200m free on the first day of the 2010 FINA Short Course World Championships on Wednesday (Dec. 15) in Dubai, UAE.

    Hosszu finished fourth in 2:04.68. Her prelim swim of 2:04.56 was under USC's school record (2:06.07) for short course meters. She also helped Hungary reach the 4x200m free relay final.

    Mellouli, swimming for Tunisia, won a bronze in 1:42.02 after going 1:42.41 in prelims.

    Former Trojan Rebecca Soni reached the final of the 50m breast after qualifying third out of the semifinals with a 30.00.

    Trojan sophomore Clement Lefert, swimming for France, finished 17th in the 200m free in 1:44.82, also under the previous Trojan standard (1:47.01).

    Incoming freshman Stina Gardell, swimming for Sweden, was 11th in the 400m IM (4:37.68).

    Former Trojan Rodrigo Castro, swimming for Brazil, raced in the 200m free, taking 23rd (1:46.60).
