    Nov. 17, 2014

USA Swimming has named USC head swimming and diving coach Dave Salo as the national women's head coach for the 2015 FINA World Championships, it was announced Monday (Nov. 17).

Salo, now in his ninth year as the Trojans men's and women's coach, will join U.S. men's coach Dave Durden, who also directs the men's team at Cal.

The 2015 FINA World Championships are set for Aug. 2-9 next year in Kazan, Russia. Salo will be serving as the U.S. women's head coach at the Worlds for the second time, having also directed the team in 2013 at the games in Barcelona. In those games, Salo led the USA women's team, headlined by Missy Franklin and Katie Ledecky, to a tournament-best nine gold medals.

Prior to his work with USA Swimming in 2013, the 2010 American Swimming Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee served as an assistant coach on the 2012 U.S. Olympic women's swim team, which won eight gold medals. It marked his third time coaching at the Olympic Games.

At USC, Salo has consistently put the Trojans in the national conversation, regularly fielding top 10 teams. The women's team finished fifth at the 2014 NCAA Championships, while the men's team finished eighth. It was the fifth straight top 7 finish for the women's team.

The men's team is 4-0 to start the 2014-15 season, all Pac-12 wins. The women's team is 3-1.
