Trojans Rebecca Soni and Hayley McGregory, who will be a junior and senior, respectively, this fall, each won national titles on Friday while former Trojan Erik Vendt won his second title on Saturday at the 2007 U.S. Summer Nationals in Indianapolis, Ind.

Soni, who won the 200m breast earlier in the meet, complemented the title with one in the 100m breast. Battling a deep field, Soni out-touched Olympians Tara Kirk and Megan Jendrick as well as American record-holder Jessica Hardy on the second lap to finish 1:07.06. Jendrick finished in 1:07.19 for second place while Kirk touched in third at 1:07.35.

McGregory won her first career national title in the 100m back. Her time of 1:00.93 was just one-tenth faster than reigning national champion Leila Vaziri's second-place time of 1:01.03.

In the final individual event of the night, Vendt won gold in the men's 800m free. Vendt set a new U.S. Open record in 7:49.75. Peter Vanderkaay finished four seconds back while recent Trojan grad Larsen Jensen was third in 7:57.79.
