USC sophomore Haley Anderson, an All-American as a 2010 freshman, made a splash in her first international Open Water event, finishing fourth in the 25K of the 2010 World Open Water Championships in Roberval, Canada, on Thursday (July 22).
Anderson, an All-American in the 1650y free at the 2010 NCAA Championships, finished fourth in 6:00.15.23 as the top American finisher. She finished about three minutes behind third-place Celia Barrot of France (5:57.02.87). The Netherlands' Linsy Heister claimed the women's 25K title with a time of 5:52:13.06 while Spain's Margarita Minguez Cabezas took silver (5:55:59.29).
A number of Trojans are set to compete in the coming weeks.
Trojans Clement Lefert (France), Katinka Hosszu and Zoltan Povazsay (Hungary), Richard Charlesworth (England) and incoming freshman Dimitri Colupaev (Germany) are scheduled to compete at the European Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Aug. 8-15. Nick Karpov is scheduled to race in the Canadian Nationals at the end of July.
A number of Trojans will race in the U.S. Summer Nationals, Aug. 3-7, which will also serve as the trials for the Pan Pacific Championships, which begin Aug. 18 in Irvine, Calif. Among the swimmers scheduled to swim at the U.S. Nationals are All-Americans Lyndsay DePaul, Presley Bard, Jessica Schmitt and Patrick White as well as Christel Simms, Ellie Doran, Tanya Krisman, Dillon Connolly, Jeff Daniels, Emmett Walling and Alex Lendrum. Incoming Trojans Kasey Carlson and Amanda Smith and former Trojan Rebecca Soni are also competing.
