Stewart (50m Fly), Kropp (200m Breast) Final At U.S. Summer Nationals|
June 26, 2013
Rising USC sophomore Kendyl Stewart finished second in the 50m fly, junior-to-be Andrea Kropp was sixth in the 200m breast while incoming freshman Chelsea Chenault finished sixth in the 200m free on the second day of the 2013 U.S. Summer Nationals in Indianapolis, Ind., on Wednesday (June 26).
Stewart, an All-American as a freshman for the Trojans in 2013, came within a hair of winning the 50m fly and earning a spot on the U.S. World Championships team for later this summer, but her 26.19 was a mere 0.11 out of first place. She also earned a berth in the 200m back final, but gave it up to focus on the 50m fly.
Kropp, third in the 200m breast at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, was a finalist again here and finished sixth in 2:28.60.
Chenault took sixth in the 200m free in 1:58.74 and has a chance to make the Worlds team as a relay participant depending on how many other swimmers claim individual event spots during the five-day meet that ends on Saturday.
Haley Anderson, who will compete at the Worlds in open water, was fourth in Tuesday's 800m free while rising sophomore Jasmine Tosky was a finalist in the 200m fly, taking sixth. Tosky and Kropp were also All-Americans in 2013.
